WHERE TO FIND HEIRLOOM SEEDS FOR YOUR HOMESTEAD
Hi There, I am Kelly. I am the head crazy at Homesteadin Crazy and I do most of the ordering for our seed stock here on the homestead. Today I would like to share with you the seed companies I most use to purchase our seeds for use on our homestead. I hope you find this helpful for your garden and homestead.
No matter where you purchase heirloom organic seeds from make sure you see that they have taken “the safe seed pledge” as below:

Further, we wish to support agricultural progress that leads to healthier soils, genetically diverse agricultural ecosystems and ultimately healthy people and communities.”

1.) Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds or rareseeds.com.
My favorite place to purchase seeds. They are located in Missouri. They have the most beautiful catalog (the free one) and then if you purchase the “Year Book” you will find absolutely amazing seeds for vegetables you have never even heard of. They are SO AWESOME. You have to check them out. Baker Creek. My number 1. The best place to find heirloom seeds for your homestead garden.

3.) Southern Exposure Seed Exchange
One of my favorites, I found them because I am in the southeast and was looking for place that might sell seeds that would do well in my area. They have a ton of seeds, but my favorite part is they have medicinal herbs including; ginger, ginseng, turmeric and goldenseal. I love this place for finding heirloom seeds for my homestead. 🙂 My number 3.
4.) MiGardener
I used to live in Michigan where MiGardener is located. I just found them last year. They are terrific. They have LOTS of seeds and lots of information as well. The seeds are only $2 a pack and shipping is free. You gotta love when shipping is free. Plus you can find heirloom seeds for your homestead here.
5.)Johnny’s Select
Everyone knows Johnny’s. They have been around for years and are a great resource for organic and open-pollinated seeds. I always look at their catalog first to see what new items they might have for this year. They have quality seed and are timely with delivery.
6.) Territorial
Honestly I have never ordered from Territorial. Not because they don’t have quality seed, but usually by the time I get to here I am out of seed money, lol. I hear great things about them though through my many seed loving friends.
7.) Seeds of Change
If the name means anything then this place should be great. I do plan to check them out further and maybe even order a few things to check out the quality, quantity, pricing and service of this seed organization. After what we have been through recently I just love the name.
8.) High Mowing Organic
Again, friends rave over this one. I did take a look at their website and it looks amazing. I even saw a few things I would like to try. Looks like I am going to have to spread my seed money out a little further than usual this year.
9.) Solana Seeds
Solana seeds is based in Canada. Due to postage I won’t be ordering from them, but if you are in Canada they look like a great company to try up your way to find heirloom seeds for your homestead garden.
10.) Sustainable Seed Company
I had never heard of this company until today. They are based in California and their website is set up well and has a variety of seeds available. Check them out if you get a chance. I will be for certain.
I also buy from Etsy sometimes. There are folks on there that have seeds and plants so I check there if I am having a hard time finding a specific seed or plant.
Well, I have a few new places to check out and see if they have seeds I need. Sustainable Seed Company has my angelica seeds and Strictly Medicinal has the comfrey I have been looking for so there will be more seeds in my future. I LOVE IT!!!
